Gippsland Business Awards gain momentum

Gippsland Business Awards gain momentum

April 13, 2021

The Gippsland Business Awards return this year with a new award to acknowledge the challenges faced by businesses across the region because of COVID-19.

The awards were postponed in 2020 for the first time since their inception and the organisers are determined to make the 2021 awards not only a celebration of Gippsland’s business and industry but an acknowledgement of the challenges faced.

The official launch of this year’s awards is on Tuesday 13 April at the Old Courthouse in Traralgon.

New naming sponsor for the prestigious awards, to be held on Friday 27 August, is Federation University who has committed its support for three years.

Chair of the Federation University Gippsland Business Awards, Graeme Sennett, said while 2020 had been difficult for many across the region, Gippsland was known for its innovation and resilience which was never more evident than in these challenging times.

“For more than 23 years, these awards have acknowledged incredible businesses from across the region and thanks to local councils and corporate sponsors, this event helps us celebrate them,” he said.

“This year, we welcome Equip Superannuation Fund who has come on board as our new Health and Well-being category sponsor and Latrobe Health Services who is partnering with us to support a special new award for 2021.

“This award will recognise the finalist whose business pivoted and responded best to the challenges presented by COVID-19.”

The other award categories are: Accommodation, Food & Wine Producers, Health & Well-being, Hospitality, Manufacturing/Export, New Business, Retail, Business & Professional Services, Beauty and Personal Care, Mechanical Trades & Construction, and Tourism Activities & Attractions.

Federation University recognises the critical role business plays in developing sustainable communities and are thrilled to continue to support Gippsland’s leading business awards.

Federation University’s Gippsland Head of Campus, Leigh Kennedy, said the Gippsland Business Awards were an important part of the region’s capacity building process.

“They celebrate the diversity of our thriving business community and showcase creativity and enterprise,” Ms Kennedy said. “They are a valuable tool to promote business success and publicly recognise exceptional achievement.”

Nominations are now open and close on 21 May.

Nominations for the 2021 awards can be submitted on the Federation University Gippsland Business Awards website - www.gba.org.au Once a business is nominated, it will receive a unique email link to complete its entry. All entries are completed online.

“We urge all Gippsland business operators to take this opportunity to recognise their achievements during a very difficult period and celebrate their capacity to overcome adversity by participating in the 2021 awards,” Mr Sennett added.
